Heywood Cricket Club enjoyed another full house for the annual presentation evening earlier this month.

The clubhouse was packed with senior and junior players as well as parents, family and supporters to share in a look back over another successful summer at all levels for the club.

David Cross was in charge of ceremonies and all of the captains and team managers spoke to give a summary of the season. All of the junior managers spoke in common terms about how proud they were of the commitment and attitude of their players as well as the outstanding behaviour and the spirit in which all of our youngsters play the game.

The Under 18′s and the Under 13′s won their respective leagues whilst the Under 15′s were runners up in their division. At a younger age both the Under 11′s and 9′s showed genuine development. These successes are not down to one or two individuals in each team but the strength in depth in each age group and this bodes extremely well for the future of senior cricket.

U13 League Winners

It was announced that the club will field an Under 19 side in 2015 instead of a 3rd XI. This side will play some friendly matches over 40 overs to give younger players chance to develop and bridge the gap to senior cricket.

At senior level it was reported that the sides had done well but that availability was a constant issue. First team captain Danny Pawson said that he had loved his first year in charge and that with the signing of Rob Nicol as professional for 2015 hopes were high that the club would have another good year.

The hard work and dedication of Rob Morley was recognised by the committee as they awarded him the Club Person of the Year award for his efforts not only running the Under 11′s but also the time and effort that he has put into the 3rd XI.

Special awards were made to Chris Kaye in celebration of his record number of wickets for the club and for winning the Clifford Pickup trophy and to Kate Cross for her part in helping England’s Women bring back the Ashes from Australia.
