Two Heywood 16-year-olds caught the eye in Heywood’s convincing friendly defeat of Prestwich at Crimble yesterday. Left-arm seamer James Mills and all-rounder Ben Thulborn picked up four wickets apiece to restrict Prestwich to a low score of 129 all-out, which was nowhere near enough as captain Danny Pawson excelled with the bat. A youthful Heywood Seconds side showed real skill before going down to league champions Walsden on Sunday at Scott Street. James Mills underlined his potential with a fine spell of bowling as Heywood Thirds hammered Walsden at Crimble. Heywood’s third team made it an almost perfect weekend for the club. They comprehensively outplayed an experienced Unsworth side, who won the Frank Bailey trophy earlier this season. Heywood’s under-15s came unstuck at home to Clifton last Friday. In a match reduced to 16 overs because of poor light, Heywood only made 48-3. A bitterly cold night couldn’t dampen the enthusiasm of Heywood under-15s, who were impressive in beating Radcliffe at Crimble.
