Heywood under-18s eased through to the quarter-finals of the Taylor Cup as they cruised past Oldham at Crimble last night. The young Pollards side were no match for a Heywood team bolstered by the late addition of Scott Jones and Dom Fawcett, who were initially supposed to be playing Festival cricket. Heywood’s talented paceman Humza Naeem claimed the extraordinary figures of 8-9 off five overs as the club’s under-18s bowled out Oldham for just 15 runs, winning by the incredible margin of 127 runs. Maguire, a popular and promising member of the 2010 side, has spent the winter in Australia and release forms have been obtained from Thornham, where he spent the 2011 season. Oldham have announced they will fulfil their fixtures in the 2012 Central Lancashire League, despite two of their most senior players stepping down. News from the Oldham Chronicle reveals captain Chris McDonnell has stepped down from the role and long-serving Paul Thompson will leave the club. There’s a meeting tonight at the Pollards about their future in the league. Again. It seems that summer rugby is a big factor in this, as it is bound to be in Oldham. What will it mean to the league? SCOOP’S VIEW: Well, the CLL will not be the same again after the rule change was passed at the league meeting last night to change from one division of 16 to two divisions of eight from 2013.
