Local MP Jim Dobbin was down at Crimble on Saturday to hand over the cheque for £50,000 for the new nets to the club. The grant comes from Sport England, and was gratefully received by vice chairman John Rhodes and first-team skipper Bobby Cross. The club’s under-13s can get themselves into the right gear for the new season shortly. Indoor nets commence on Tuesday 13 March for three weeks at Siddal Moor, on Newhouse Road. After 37 years stuck behind the steering wheel of a lorry, John Fielding wants an altogether more stimulating experience of the English countryside.
