Skipper Adam Fawcett was on song with bat and ball as Heywood CC under-18s moved into the semi-finals of the Taylor Cup on Wednesday night.
In front of their biggest crowd of the season, the talented Heywood side hammered Royton by nine wickets with 3.4 overs remaining.
Batting first in a game of 16 overs, Royton were restricted to 74-9 – effectively all out as Porteous retired for an excellent, unbeaten 25.
Fawcett picked up four of the wickets to fall, but much of the early damage was done by Andy Dawson (3-18).
Fawcett finished with figures of 4-11 and Lawrence Higson, with his idiosyncratic leg-breaks, took 2-26.
Despite losing Dawson early doors, Fawcett and Chris Booth made sure there was no chance of Heywood getting turned over as they cruised to 75-1, Booth retiring on 26 not out and Fawcett on 27 not out.
They now face big local rivals Norden at Crimble next Wednesday in the semi-finals, starting at 6.15pm.
