Huge Finish To Season At Crimble On Sunday

HEYWOOD Cricket Club face a last game Central Lancashire League shoot-out at home to Royton on Sunday (12.30).

A third successive maximum point pick-up at Clifton last weekend leaves Heywood in fifth place in the table, three points in front of Royton.

So whoever wins will be guaranteed a spot in the top five and a place in the Lancashire KO Cup next season.

And for one man the match will have extra significance.

Chris Kaye, pictured, will be aiming to cap his remarkable personal season, which has taken off even further in recent weeks, with a further big wicket haul.

The 42-year-old left-arm spinner claimed another seven in the 85-run win at Clifton to make it 19 in the last three games, and a stunning 91 for the season.

He will need something extraordinary to match the all-time record of 98 by a Heywood amateur bowler set by Frank Watson back in 1916.

And the magical milestone of 100 wickets is almost certainly just too much to ask.

But his career total is now 725 and he will be keen to edge nearer the all-time record aggregate for the club of 789, held by current club chairman David Fare.

The second team are away to Royton on Sunday, but there is still action at Crimble on Saturday when the third team host Deane and Derby in a rearranged Manchester Association clash (1pm).
