HEYWOOD’S second team completed the double over Bury with a 69-run victory on Sunday.

It was an impressive performance following a poor early start, and it was two of the club’s most promising young players who caught the eye.

Batting at number six, Andy Dawson gave more evidence of the abundant talent that he has with a brilliant 48 that made mockery of a poor pitch.

He hit some memorable shots all round the wicket, none more so than the cover drive that flew to the boundary off the visitors’ returning opening bowler.

He was brilliantly supported in a substantial stand by Chris Booth who worked the ball with ease into the gaps for a fine innings that ended only in the last over as Heywood were bowled out for 157.

That was always out of reach for Bury, who made 88, with three wickets for left-arm slowy Dale Latham, plus two apiece for veteran Rick Purser – the first brilliantly taken off a fine edge at first slip by Adam Fawcett – the pacy Simon Dawson and Fawcett himself.
