Local MP Jim Dobbin was down at Crimble on Saturday to hand over the cheque for £50,000 for the new nets to the club.

The grant comes from Sport England, and was gratefully received by vice chairman John Rhodes and first-team skipper Bobby Cross. (Full story and better picture than mine to come shortly)

It was fitting that Mr Dobbin was at Heywood CC on the day as it was a pleasant afternoon and there was plenty of work being done on the ground.

Tom McGoldrick had been working on the squirrel infestation in the umpires’ changing room, Lee Grogan and kids were grafting outside the changing roms, while Wes and Mark Hunt and Sean Burrill were involved in a bit of everything.

Dave Blundell and Keith Warren were hard at work on the patio. The foundations for the extension to the patio have been filled and most of the old paving was being removed to make way for the rebuild.

Many thanks to Marshall’s of Ramsbottom for this, as they have donated bricks and paving stones to help us along the way. These arrive tomorrow (Monday).

Meanhwile, I was poncing around with a camera while they all worked.
