Heywood Under 13’s came through their toughest test so far with flying with two wins in two days.

On Sunday, playing a Clifton side with district players, Heywood batted first looking to build on the previous week’s first league win.

Keelan Nugent scored a quickfire 25 and retired to record successive 25+ retired scores.

Danny James batted patiently for his 20 and this was the bedrock for a slightly below-par score of 70.

The lads then stepped up to the plate and bowled and fielded magnificently to restrict Clifton to 60 runs and win by 10.

The bowlers all bowled a good line and length and showed great composure in winning what on paper was a tough fixture.

Monday was the Lancashire Cup semi-final.

On a high after recording back to back league wins Heywood made it three from three with victory against a useful-looking Shaw side.

Heywood batted first and were superb throughout their 20 overs and scored 95-4.

Billy Radclife (25) was the star performer, with notable contributions from Danny James, Keelan Nugent and Danny Joesbury.

Jordan Parr and Shoeb Zahid also did well at the end to value their wicket whilst taking six quick runs from the final over.

Heywood then took to the field and put pressure on Shaw throughout with some accurate bowling and tight fielding.

Jordan Parr took an amazing one-handed catch late in the game to dismiss the Shaw star batsman and the game looked over.

The final three overs showed an amazing turn of events that actually led to Shaw needing a 6 off the last ball to win the game.

Darius Campbell held his nerve to secure the Heywood win and book our place v Denton West in the area final to be played next week.

The team has come a long way in a very short space of time and now look like on any given day they will be able to compete very well indeed against any side in this age group.

Next up is Walsden at HOME on Sunday 27th May (09.15am meet ). Team selection to follow.
