Andy Flower was overseas amateur for Heywood in 1989 (with John Abrahams as pro) and later professional in 1992-1993.

With Andy as pro, we beat Middleton in the famous 1993 Wood Cup final, where VD Ball and Mike Kitchen played starring roles.

Here are some of the pictures given to me by Yvonne Caveney, part of a treasure trove of old pics and articles preserved by Heywood CC’s greatest historian Vernon Connolly.

Andy, of course, went on to be a great international batsman and is current England coach.
