HEYWOOD’S Greater Manchester Cricket League season gets under way on schedule this coming weekend.

And, for the first time, the Club will put out four sides with the newly-inaugurated fourth team – featuring the maximum permitted three players over the age of 21 – in debut action at Droylsden on Sunday (1.30pm).

Fears that the start of the campaign would be put back owing to the extended lockdown after Christmas have been allayed.

But, in accordance with ECB and Government guidelines, NO AWAY SUPPORTERS will be allowed at any of the games. And members wishing to watch the second team against Mottram at Crimble on Saturday must be wait to be served at a table if they wish to buy a drink from the bar.

The senior side face a trip into Derbyshire on Saturday to take on Glossop (12.30pm), and the team features new signings Fayaz Ughradar and Caleb Grant – who both acquitted themselves well in the friendly game at Norden last weekend.

Making his debut in the first team will be Sam Bevan, older brother of Harry Bevan, the latter well-known to Crimble regulars.

The second team get the Crimble action going by hosting Mottram at home the same day (1pm), and the third team go to Bury area club Brooksbottom on Sunday (1.30pm).
