rob11129There was an excellent turn out, great team spirit and loads achieved at Heywood CC’s 2013 Natwest Cricketforce Day at Crimble.

Although nothing like the grand event of last year, close to 100 people came and contributed to efforts to get the ground shipshape for the coming season.

Chief among the jobs were painting the sightscreens, the new container, the Portakabin and creosoting the patio furniture and other benches. Weeding and painting was also done around the pavilion.

Youngsters planted lots of new saplings around the ground, which will hopefully add to the surroundings in future years, and many smaller odd jobs were undertaken.

Much work has already been done ahead of time by the ground crew, who were also busy mowing the ground and preparing the first wicket for the following day’s game.

Bacon and sausage butties and tea and coffee were provided for the grafters, followed by pies at lunch.

Another great example of spirit, not bundles of cash, being the driving force behind good sports clubs.
