HEYWOOD’S senior sides suffered a frustrating triple wipe-out by the weather at the weekend.

Two Marston’s T20 group matches failed to reach a conclusion on Thursday and Friday, and Saturday’s Division 1A home clash with Uppermill lasted just 24.4 overs.

The rain-jinxed T20 clash at Moorside, abandoned without a ball being bowled the previous Friday, was re-arranged for Thursday night only to suffer the same fate.

And the fifth match in the group at home to Royton the following night saw just 12 overs of action before the monsoons again took control, with Royton reaching 53-1 from 12 overs.

There was slightly more play in the League game at Crimble the following day, when Uppermill reached 70-1 from 21.4 overs until rain again drove off the players at 2.18pm with the match eventually being called off at 4pm.

Heywood will be hoping for more joy this coming weekend, starting with a Friday visit to Stalybridge-area side Stayley Scorpions when victory for Heywood Monkeys could see them qualify for the quarter-finals.

Then on Saturday it’s back to League action for the 1st X1 with a trip to Hyde area club Flowery Field.

+ HEYWOOD’S 2nd X1 suffered similar frustration with their Division 3 East game at Flowery Field on Saturday also being curtailed after the home side had reached 60-2 in 20 overs.

They went out of the 2nd X1 Premier Cup at Astley and Tyldesley on Sunday, the home team making 187-9 from their 45 overs and the visitors replying with 128 all out.

Heywood’s chief wicket-takers were Tom Pagett (3-27) and Chris Kaye (2-9). In the Heywood innings, Rob Bennett made 39, Lee Grogan 26 and Lee Clarkson 25.

The 3rd X1 got the better of a truncated Sunday Plate tie at Denton. They were 38-2 in 14.4 overs when the game was called off, but went through on a bowl-out.
