HEYWOOD’S Greater Manchester League season is being undermined by the incalculable English weather.

Saturday’s wash-out at Bury area club Brooksbottom was their SIXTH abandonment of the 2019 campaign, a third of the 18 matches to date in Division 1A.

Meanwhile, four of the other five scheduled games in Division  1A saw positive results, with victories for Glodwick, Glossop, Moorside and Flowery Field.

And that leaves Heywood’s bid to regain their Premier League status even more difficult with just four matches left.

The top two will gain automatic promotion. Moorside lead the way with 64 points; Flowery Field, Glodwick and Denton West have 61; Glossop are in fifth place on 58; and Heywood now have it all to do on 55.

Assuming Heywood don’t make it into the top two there is a desirable second prize almost certainly to play for, with a Premier Division Two being mooted.

Heywood’s four-game run-in to the end of the season starts with a home clash against Denton this coming Saturday, August 24. That will be followed by: a trip to Uppermill (August 31); a final home game against Flowery Field (September 7); and a stiff last game visit to Glodwick.
