The club are saddened to hear of the death of long standing club member and former player Martin Platt.

Martin was a regular 2nd team player in the 1960′s and 70′s and played several times in the 1st XI.

An old boy of Heywood Grammar School he moved down to the Cambridge area in the 1980′s but was a long time supporter of the club from his return up until becoming unwell and going into a hospice in the final months.

Martin played football for the Old Boys and his brother David was also a cricketer at Heywood.

We send our condolences to David and the rest of the family.

  1. Very sad to hear this news.
Platty was a member of the second team that I broke into as a junior. A real character in a dressing room that was full of characters at that time – great memories – it was never dull!
RIP Platty – my condolences to the family.

He was always willing to come and talk to me when I returned to Heywood. My thoughts are with the family at this sad time. Hope everyone is staying safe at Heywood at this very testing time.
