HEYWOOD members have resoundingly turned down a proposal to leave the Greater Manchester Cricket League (GMCL).

An Extraordinary General Meeting resulted in a big turn-out in the Crimble clubhouse to debate the sole item for discussion: ‘That this Club should consider an application to join the Lancashire Cricket League for the 2021 season’.

And after many had their say on the pros and cons, a secret ballot was taken from those present and proxy votes from others not able to attend.

It resulted in 56 “against” the proposal, 28 “for” and three “don’t knows”.

Heywood were founder members of the Central Lancashire League until leaving at the end of the 2015 season to join the newly-created GMCL.

There had been an undercurrent of feeling amongst some members that Heywood should apply to join the recently restructured Lancashire League, which now operates a two division system.
