Cool heads: Chris Kaye and Rob Slawson

Danny Pawson in full through

Chris Kaye and Robert Slawson held their nerve to edge Heywood to a thrilling one-run victory at Crimble today.

Heywood were cruising at 129-3 chasing Crompton’s 156. But a middle-order collapse meant the two veterans came in at 149-9 with Crompton buoyant.

But both showed their experience and it was a relieved Heywood crowd that cheered the pair into the pavilion after Kaye hit three through extra cover for a tense victory.

The victory was built on the back of another masterful performance from Danny Pawson, who hit a superb 63, and a gritty knocks from Ross Zelem and Dale Latham

Earlier Kaye picked up four more wickets as Heywood bowled Crompton out in an up and down performance in the field.

Simon Wright top scored for Crompton with 53, while overseas amateur Denis Louis showed some class with 34.

Heywood’s pro Travis Townsend picked up three wickets, while Joe Lovell helped himself to two at the end.
