BY STEVE MCHUGH: HEYWOOD moved into the third round of the Royal London National Club Championship with an authoritative seven-wicket victory at Bolton area club Tonge.

The visitors were, in truth, rarely troubled despite having to field a weakened side once they had broken Tonge’s opening partnership of 31 and bundled the home team out for 108.

Heywood had a slight wobble in their reply when they were reduced to 43-3 with Andy Kerr, Andy Dawson and Bobby Cross back in the shed.

But Danny Pawson joined professional Travis Townsend to make sure there were no further alarms in a pernicious 67-run stand from just 38 balls to see their side canter through to the next round.

It was a stress free day out for another sizeable Heywood contingent basking in pleasant weather once Andy Dawson had made the breakthrough with the ball with the first two Tonge wickets.

From then on spinners Chris Kaye and Jack Morley ran through the batting line-up, with veteran left-arm spinner Kaye again showing his effectiveness when answering a senior call to finish with 4-21 from 6.4 overs.

Morley claimed 2-20 from his eight overs and the last six Tonge wickets fell for just 25 runs.
