A FAMILY Fun Day on Bank Holiday Monday, May 2, has been deemed an outstanding success.

A sizeable crowd descended on Crimble to sample the many attractions organised by the Club’s new hardworking social section.

Their efforts were rewarded as families – many experiencing Heywood Cricket Club for the first time – were able to have an enjoyable day out.

Lesley Morley, speaking on behalf of the Social Committee, said: “It was a tense time in the run-up to the day with the weather looking like it was going to put an end to the event before it had even started.

“However, the team of volunteers had made an early start setting up gazebos and tables in order that the stalls could be under cover.

“It was a great team effort and all was sorted when the stallholders started to arrive.

“From a weather point of view the day started unpromisingly, but by lunchtime the sun came out and the ground was full of happy people.

”There are many to thank starting with all the volunteers, and the players who worked hard with the cricket and football activities.

“JK Events kept the kids and parents happy with their inflatables while Roch Valley Radio created a vibrant atmosphere with music on the day, supplemented by the wonderful singing voice of Natalia Jacques.

“Others to thank sincerely include: Prestwich Lions for giving their day up to man the entrance gate; the burgers and baps caravan for the catering; Tara-sorriso facepaint for her wonderful creations; St Joseph’s Church for loaning tables; all those who loaned gazebos and tables; Morrison’s for their contribution towards the food for the cricket teas; those who donated tombola prizes; Heywood Fire Bridge for their presence; and the bar staff.

“I believe that it was a tremendous advert for Crimble and, hopefully, we will see many of the new faces back down at the ground for future cricket games and functions.”
