Heywood under-18s eased through to the quarter-finals of the Taylor Cup as they cruised past Oldham at Crimble last night.

The young Pollards side were no match for a Heywood team bolstered by the late addition of Scott Jones and Dom Fawcett, who were initially supposed to be playing Festival cricket.

Heywood posted a total of 107-5 off their 16 overs (the match was bizarrely shortened by a ridiculous amount by one umpire who objected to the late start) and then restricted Oldham to 45-7.

Andy Dawson smashed a quick 26 retired, including a big six off his first ball, and was followed by Wes Hunt, who retired on 27. Ben Tulborn was the next highest scorer with 18.

In reply, there were two wickets for Dawson, Hunt and Lawrence Arnold, making a welcome return to the side, while Thulborn picked up the other to fall as Oldham failed to challenge.

It means Heywood face Norden at Crimble next week for a place in the semis.
