A FORMER Heywood Cricket Club player has sadly passed away at a relatively young age.

Tim Smedley, who played mainly second team cricket but some first team games in the early 1980s, died last week after visiting Crimble the previous weekend. He was believed to be 58.

He lived in Milnrow but had a spell as a teacher at Siddal Moor alongside Andy Lamb, who introduced him to Heywood CC.

Tim was a left-arm over-the-wicket seam bowler who played mainly for Heywood’s second team but made some senior appearances.

The Funeral is Thursday 22nd June at 1.40 pm at Rochdale Crematorium. Family flowers only. A donations box will be available with donations going to The Samaritans.
