Andy Dawson took the plaudits in tonight’s (Tuesday) victory over Middleton in the T20 – but the win had everything to do with a stunning performance in the field from Bobby Cross’s boys.

Hamish Paterson and Humza Naeem set the tone with the ball, then Travis Townsend, Lee Grogan and Joe Lovell had Middleton in disarray as they slipped from 63-4 to 98-9 off their 20 overs.

The bowling was backed up by a superb performance in the field. Everyone was on top of their game and three run outs in the space of no time ruined Middleton’s innings as they panicked in the face of some great fielding.

Naeem’s catch off the final ball of the Middleton innings typified that effort.

Although it was a modest target, Dawson set off with a quick victory in mind.

He hit 12 off his first over faced – including a couple of thoroughbred strokes – and paced his innings perfectly, bringing up his 50 with victory in sight, much to the delight off a big home support.

The match ended prematurely in the rain as Middleton agreed that Heywood were home and hosed, and a delighted Dawson headed off with applause ringing in his ears and evidence for all to see that his 77 at Norden was not a fluke.

Great performance, great night, unbeaten in 10 in the CLL!!!

Full report to come.
