Jack Morley in action last summer

JACK Morley is counting down the days as he faces the trip of a lifetime following his selection for the Under-16s final 14-man squad to represent the English Cricket Board in Sri Lanka.

Heywood’s 15-year-old protégé is the only Lancashire player to have been selected for the tour to the sub continent, departing from Heathrow on March 23 and returning on April 2.
The squad will be captained by Jack Haynes of Worcestershire, and the other players selected are: Sam Young (Somerset), Ben Charlesworth (Gloucs), Rahul Sheemar (Essex, vice-capt), Richard Bell (Lincolnshire), Lewis Goldsworthy (Cornwall), Jordan Cox (Kent, wicketkeeper), Hamidullah Qadri (Derbys), Tom Gordon (Sussex), Tom Davis (Kent), Louis Botes (Cheshire), Sean Sullivan (Essex) and Xavier Clarke (Shrops).
National Performance Manager David Graveney, a former chairman of the England Test selectors, said: “The quality of players not only involved in the Best of Bunbury fixture but also the overall standard of regional cricket this year was extremely high and gave the selectors much to deliberate.”
A surprise omission to many in the Lancashire area is Sam Dorsey, of Clifton, but the fact that Jack is the only player from this region to be selected is another feather in his cap – and a matter of great pride to all Crimble regulars.
The tour starts with a training session at Bloomfield CC in Colombo on March 25 before the real action begins as follows:
+ March 26 – a 40-overs match against the Sri Lankan counterparts at the Colombo Oval.
+ March 28 – a second 40-over match at the same venue.
+ March 30 – a 50-over match at the Surrey Ground in Galle.
+ April 1 – a second and concluding 50-over match in Galle.
Jack’s father Rob said: “We are very proud parents. Besides the four fixtures over the tour period the lads will also get to see the wonders of Sri Lanka.
“Let’s hope this kicks off a great season for both Jack personally and also Heywood CC in our bid to win promotion back to the Greater Manchester Premier League.”
