Bobby Cross made back-to-back hundreds look like child’s play as he led his side to victory at Unsworth yesterday.

Heywood cruised to a 10-wicket, rain-reduced victory that extended their unbeaten run in the CLL and which will have sent a real message out to other would-be title contenders.

Unsworth looked like scoring a big total on a miserable day at Pole Lane, but an excellent late spell from Chris Kaye (3-37 from 10) and more impressive bowling from pro Travis Townsend restricted the home side to a lower-than-expected total of 183. Overseas amateur Hussain Badat batted through for an unbeaten 84.

Heywood were faced with what could have been a testing, rain-affected target of 151 off 38 overs on a greasy wicket.

However, Cross and Ross Zelem made sure it was anything but.

Cross continued his remarkable run of form – following on from his unbeaten 154 against Oldham and 87 not out against Bamford – hitting a chanceless 102 not out to lead his side to victory, while Zelem looked equally confident with an unbeaten 41.

It now makes it seven out of seven for the Crimble lads, who are looking red-hot tips for league success.

Full report and reaction to come on Monday.
