aunder11s0017REPORT BY ROB MORLEY: Heywood’s U11′s played their fourth game of the 2013 season at home to Littleborough on Wednesday night with the weather being bright and breezy.

The youngsters in a changed line up again started the match with the same winning attitude that each of the other three teams had previously shown.

Captain for the season Ethan Harding won the toss and placed the visitors into bat on what looked like a decent wicket.

It was game on!

New team member Jude Meadowcroft started the bowling off against the first of the Littleborough pairs, which consisted of Perrin and  Kelly who pilled on the runs in a shock opening, ending their four overs on a solid total of 222.

From the second pair through to the end of visitors innings the run rate had slowed and the wickets taken increased to six, which restricted the score on the board at the end of the visitors innings to 234 from 20 overs. Best of the bowling this week came from Witts, Crompton and big Joe Carter.

On to the Heywood innings, and the first pairing of newbie Meadowcroft and Taylor managed to put three on the board without any wickets lost, and the next pairing of Harding and McKenzie again managed a steady increase of runs, ending their 4 overs on 213.

The third pairing to the crease was in-form Kaye and the improving Brennon and between them they managed to hit four fours and amass an outstanding 29 runs from their four overs with Kaye scoring 11 off 14 balls and Brennon knocking an excellent 18 off 10 balls.

With no wickets lost in the pairing, it was an excellent middle order demonstration with the bat.

Following on, the final pairings also managed a good run rate with steady knocks from Crompton (12) and Witts (10), which ensured the Heywood young guns innings ended on an impressive total of 279 runs from the 20 allocated overs, which made it four wins from four played and again a great start to the 2013 season .

Coach Grogan, along with assistants Morley and Hunt, were delighted with the performance, both on and off the pitch, with all members of the team working together and backing each other up all the way.

It was a great start to 2013 for the team and it must be said that the support on the night was outstanding yet again.

Also special thanks to Sam and others for hot drinks and food supplied for spectators and players alike.
